Kingston Lacy – Dorset

Kingston Lacy country house and estate in Dorset, was built to resemble a Venetian palace and is now owned by the National Trust.

Brief:
Kingston Lacy’s Christmas offering was broad in scope, offering impressive festive displays inside the house and an enchanting trail within the grounds. The theme of the event was ‘A Christmas Wish’. I was commissioned to illustrate many aspects of this projects.

These included:

Client:

National Trust, Kingston Lacy

Project:

A Christmas Wish 2024

The development of wishmaker/sprite characters that would lead families through an outdoor trail. I illustrated around 20 of these little creatures in various poses and clothing. I then organised the printing and laser cutting of the figures onto metal composite to be displayed outdoors.

The designing and illustrating of an invitation/activity sheet to be given to all families on arrival.

Large scale illustration of the Kingston Lacy house was commissioned for a 3D advent calendar. Over a metre square, the 4 sides, plus cupola were printed onto metal composite, laser cut and delivered flat for the team at Kingston Lacy to assemble.

Illustrations of all 4 sides of Kingston Lacy. These were printed onto composite board and built into a 3D piece 1200x800mm. Holes were cut through 24 of the windows to create an Advent Calendar to be displayed in the house itself.

Five Square ‘peep’ boxes were also built. Each scene included an animal receiving a Christmas gift within their own ‘home’. Families could peep into the boxes and answer related questions on the trail activity sheet.

These drawings were printed onto metal composite and built into a square box, creating a 3D scene with 3 illustrated elements per box.
